ECM

ECM has a strong and extensive Hydro overhaul and machining repair experience. 

We have talented supervisory professionals who have provided technical direction, scheduling, and on-site project management of craft manpower and subcontractors.

In addition to the usual disassembly, inspection, reassembly and laser alignment, ECM has successfully completed the following machining and repair modifications for Hydros:

Jersey Central Power & Light Company - Yard's Creek Station, numerous overhauls from 1992 to present:

  • Disassembly, reassembly and realignment of all components.
  • Modification of water path by cutting out the stay vanes, portions of draft tube, re-welding in replacement components and field machining.
  • Line boring wicket gate bores and installation of replacement busing including grease system re-piping.
  • Head cover flange field machining; rings, bottom facing plate seat ,and stationary seating areas.
  • Rebuild servogate links and pins; installation of new gate thrust assemblies and realignment of the operating ring and gate system.
  • Rebuild/replaced spherical valve seals; replacement of Penstock expansion joint, lead abatement/repainted components.
  • Installation of new facing plates and stationary seals, including drilling and tapping new fasteners holes.

Corps of Engineers-Department of the Army - Center Hill Power Plant two units:

  • Disassembled, cleaned/inspected and reassembled/realigned units.
  • Re-wedged generator stator.
  • Repair runner.

American Electric Power-Smith Mountain Station:

  • Repaired cavitation on runners and gates.

Department of the Interior-Grand Coulee Dam:

  • Disassembled, field machined seals, reassembled/realigned pump storage unit.

Allis Chalmers-Philadelphia Electric Company, Muddy Run Plant- Units 7&8:

  • Disassembled, cleaned/inspected, reassembled, realigned both units.
  • Line bored wicket gate.
  • Repaired cavitation damage.
  • Replaced and machined stationary seals.

ECM Philadelphia Electric Company - Conowingo Dam:

  • Replaced governors and instrumentation on six units.
  • Passaic Valley Water Commission, Little Falls Station, Units 1-4;
  • Disassembled, cleaned, inspected, reassembled/realigned units.
  • Supplied new gate bushing.
  • Line bored gate bores.
  • Installed new seals and line bored all stationary components.
  • Rewound generator stators.
  • Overhauled exciter.
  • Replaced governor and new instrumentation.

Niagra Mohawk-Sherman Island Station:

  • Provided centerline machining to accept new runner.

National Electric Coil Company-Old Hickory Station:

  • Disassembled, cleaned, inspected, reassembled and realigned.
  • Performed re-rounding of stator.
  • National Electric Coil Company-Hartwell Station: four units
  • Disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lead abated and painted, reassembled and realigned.

New York Power Authority-Blenheim Gilboa Station:

  • Raised head cover with gates and field machined stationary components.

Northeast Utilities-Northfield Pump Storage - Two units:

  • Disassembled, cleaned, inspected, modified equalizing lines, core drilled, fabrication and installation of 8' piping, weld repaired draft tube, lead abatement painting, overhauled servos, reassembled and realigned.
  • Provided technical direction
